Frequently asked questions
- 01Here’s how your taster lesson goes:Park on our quiet road—or go full rockstar and use the drive. Rupert the dog might greet you (unless you're not a fan, just don’t mention him and he’ll stay snoozing).Parents: You’re welcome to watch your child get drumming in The Drum Cubby or chill in the car while your mini drummer gets stuck in. Prefer a walk? There’s a lovely short route nearby, just ask. We’ll start with the basics: holding sticks, sitting properly, hitting the drums right, and naming each part of the kit. Then you’ll learn a fun, easy beat that works with loads of songs—instant win! We'll chat about your favourite tunes, maybe throw in a drum fill if you're flying, and wrap it up your way.
- 02Start with goals:First off I think it's best to have a chat about what your goals are for your drumming. You may be brand-new to the instrument or you might have an on-and-off player for a while. Either way it's important to see whether you want to improve so you can join a band, or you want to get better at certain things.Kick-offOnce we've established your goals, I like to get them cracking straight away and plan out the route we can take to get you to where you want to be.
- 03I teach students of all ages, from young beginners (around 6 years old) to adults of any age. Lessons are tailored to suit the needs, goals, and skill levels of each individual.

- 05Sure! Here's a cheekier and friendlier version of that: Of course! Rupert’s a total sweetheart (and hypoallergenic to boot), but we totally get that not everyone’s a dog person. Just give us a heads-up if you’d prefer him out of the way—no offence taken! He doesn’t hang out in the Drum Cubby anyway, so you won’t find him sneaking in for a solo.
- 06Just bring yourself and your excitement to play! If you have sticks or a practice pad, great! If not, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. And if you want, you can say hello to Rupert, my dog—he loves a good pet before we get started!
- 07Nope! You don’t need your own kit to get started. I’ve got the gear—you bring the enthusiasm. That said, a practice pad at home wouldn’t hurt but no rush.
- 08We're tucked away on a lovely quiet street with loads of parking right outside – zero stress, just rock up!
- 09No experience needed at all!
- 10Lessons run 20, 30, or 60 minutes. Once a week is ideal for making real progress, but if you’re more of a binger, we can book more.
- 11Great question, our drum-kit is a hybrid acoustic/ electronic kit. This means that we can manually turn the volume down or up - it'll never be loud enough to harm their hearing.
- 12Absolutely! The Drum Cubby’s a cosy little spot – so as long as you’re not claustrophobic, you’ll be just fine! Or hey, why not take a break from the kids and chill in the waiting room with a cuppa.
- 13If you can’t make your lesson, we’ll do our best to shuffle things around and find another time that works. Sometimes that just means you’ll get double the drumming fun in one week. But! If we can’t pin down a reschedule, the lesson will still be billed — think of it as your spot being reserved just for you. That said, we're usually pretty good at making it work. 😉
