  • What To Expect In Your Trial Lesson.
Here’s how it’ll go down… First, you’ll roll up and park on our lovely, quiet road—or straight onto the drive if you’re feeling fancy. Then, if you’re into fluffy welcomes, Rupert the dog will be more than happy to say hello (no hard feelings if you’d rather skip the tail wags—just don’t mention him and I’ll take the hint). For the parents: if you’re dropping off your mini rockstar for their trial lesson, you’ve got options. You can either come in and hang out in the cosy Drum Cubby with us, or pop the seat back and enjoy some well-earned peace and quiet in the car. Now, let’s talk drums... We’ll kick off with the basics—how to hold the sticks without flinging them across the room, how to sit at the kit like a boss, how to hit the drums properly (not just bash them like a caveman), and what each drum and cymbal is actually called. Then we’ll dive into a super cool, easy-peasy drum beat—something short, snappy, and guaranteed to make you feel awesome. You’ll be surprised how many songs it works with! After that, we’ll have a good ol’ natter about your favourite tunes—because let’s be honest, playing along to music you love is way more fun than some dusty old drum exercise. If you’re smashing it (which I reckon you will), we might even throw in a drum fill—that epic bit where the drummer shows off just before the chorus kicks in. And to wrap things up: 🎬 Fancy a superstar moment? We can film a slick little video of you playing your beat along to your fave song (with parental permission of course). OR 🤘 If the camera’s not your thing, we can just keep jamming and having fun ‘til the clock says stop.
  • What age groups do you teach?
I teach students of all ages, from young beginners (around 6 years old) to adults of any age. Lessons are tailored to suit the needs, goals, and skill levels of each individual.
  • How Do Payments Work?
We use a safe system called GoCardless to take payments. It lets us take money from your account for the drum lessons you’ve had each month, based on your plan. This means you don’t have to remember to send money or check bills — it's all done for you! You can stop it anytime, and you’re always in control.
  • I'm Not Keen On Dogs, Can I Still Come To Lessons Without Seeing Rupert?
Sure! Here's a cheekier and friendlier version of that: Of course! Rupert’s a total sweetheart (and hypoallergenic to boot), but we totally get that not everyone’s a dog person. Just give us a heads-up if you’d prefer him out of the way—no offence taken! He doesn’t hang out in the Drum Cubby anyway, so you won’t find him sneaking in for a solo.
  • Do I need my own drum kit to start lessons?
Nope! You don’t need your own kit to get started. I’ve got the gear—you bring the enthusiasm. That said, a practice pad at home wouldn’t hurt.
  • What should I bring to my first lesson?
Just bring yourself and your excitement to play! If you have sticks or a practice pad, great! If not, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. And if you want, you can say hello to Rupert, my dog—he loves a good pet before we get started!
  • Where Do I Park?!
We're tucked away on a lovely quiet street with loads of parking right outside – zero stress, just rock up!
  • Do I need any experience to start lessons?
Not at all! I’m here to take you from “what’s a snare drum?” to “look out, world, here comes a drummer!” No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
  • How long are the lessons, and how often should I take them?
Lessons run 20, 30, or 60 minutes. Once a week is ideal for making real progress, but if you’re more of a binger, we can book more.
  • Are drum lessons noisy? Should I be worried about mine or my child's hearing?
Great question, our drum-kit is a hybrid acoustic/ electronic kit. This means that we can manually turn the volume down or up - it'll never be loud enough to harm their hearing.
  • I'm A Parent, Can I Sit In On Lessons?
Absolutely! The Drum Cubby’s a cosy little spot – so as long as you’re not claustrophobic, you’ll be just fine! Or hey, why not take a break from the kids and chill in the car with a cuppa and maybe even a cheeky slice of cake (if we’ve got any spare)!
  • What is your cancellation policy?
If you can’t make your lesson, we’ll do our best to shuffle things around and find another time that works. Sometimes that just means you’ll get double the drumming fun in one week. But! If we can’t pin down a reschedule, the lesson will still be billed — think of it as your spot being reserved just for you. That said, we're usually pretty good at making it work. 😉
  • How Do Home Lessons Work?
They’re a little different to sessions at The Drum Cubby. If you’d rather we hit the road and come to you, you’ll need your own drum kit ready to go. Curious? Drop us a message and let’s chat about it! 🥁🚗
  • Couldn't I just teach myself the drums using YouTube?
Sure, you could learn drums on YouTube—just like you could learn to drive by watching racing videos. Fun until you hit a roundabout! 😅 With us, you get real feedback, personalised lessons, and zero bad habits.
  • Wouldn't I be better off learning drums at school?
Sure, school drum lessons are great—if you fancy sharing a kit that looks like it’s been dragged down a motorway and playing "Twinkle Twinkle" on repeat! With us, it’s all about your favourite music, pro gear that actually sounds good, and lessons tailored just for you. No waiting, no noise battles
  • How are we different from other music schools that teach everything from flute to kazoo?
Unlike other schools teaching everything from flute to kazoo, we’re all about drums—100% pure, unfiltered drumming. With us, you get specialist lessons tailored just for drummers—no one-size-fits-all nonsense. More playing, more progress, and way more bang for your buck. Other schools can keep their recorders.
  • Do you teach Guitar? Vocals perhaps? Triangle even?
    Nope.
  • What styles of drumming can I learn?
Anything from classic rock to headbanging metal, funk to jazzy smoothness—if it makes noise, we can make it sound good. Even if you just want to learn the intro to We Will Rock You (no judgment).
  • How are lessons structured using the MDS Levels system?
Forget boring exams and rigid grades—MDS Levels are all about real drumming. You’ll: Play Cool Stuff: Learn pieces you actually want to play. Jam Out: Improvise over songs I choose, so you’ll always be on your toes. Groove & Smash: Master beats and fills for your favorite genres. You’ll be a versatile drummer before you know it!
  • Can I learn to play specific songs?
Yes! Whether you want to master a stadium anthem, impress friends with a tricky groove, or just prove you can play “that one song,” we’ll break it down until you’re nailing it.
  • Do you offer online drum lessons?
You bet! We can rock out online—no need to leave your house or even change out of your pyjamas. The same high-energy lessons, just with fewer traffic jams and more slippers.
  • What payment methods do you accept?
We offer a simple subscription model—just sign up with your details through our secure payment system, and you'll be billed monthly. No hassle, no extra steps required!
