Midlands Drum School – Safeguarding Policy

1. Purpose
This policy outlines how Midlands Drum School ensures a safe environment for all children and young people who attend drum lessons on our premises.
2. Commitment
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We recognise our responsibility to take all reasonable steps to protect children from harm and respond appropriately to concerns.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all lessons delivered by Midlands Drum School at 16 Greenslade Crescent, Amblecote, or via online platforms.
4. Responsibilities

The lead tutor (Alisdair Mason) is the Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP).

The DSP is responsible for ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed and reviewed regularly.
5. Safer Practice
We maintain the following to protect children:

An enhanced DBS check with Barred List for the lead tutor.

Lessons take place in a clean, safe, and designated music space.

Parents/guardians are welcome to observe or remain nearby.

No unsupervised access is given to anyone else on the premises during lesson times.

Communication with students under 18 is conducted via parents or with parental awareness.
6. Recognising and Responding to Concerns
If we suspect a child is at risk of harm, we will:

Record the concern factually and clearly.

Contact the local safeguarding team or NSPCC for advice.

In an emergency, contact the police or children’s services.
We will not promise confidentiality and will act in the child’s best interest at all times.
7. Online Safety
When teaching online:

Sessions are conducted via secure platforms.

Parents are informed of session times.
-
No sessions are recorded without prior consent.
8. Policy Review
This policy is reviewed annually or as needed following guidance changes.
